Film hybride, entre l'enquête, la veillée ou l'hommage, "La Part du feu" embrasse plusieurs discours suscités par la question de l'amiante : analyses, diagnostics, témoignages, et en guise de fil rouge, le journal de maladie que le père d'Emmanuel Roy a tenu dans les derniers mois de sa vie. Sans véhémence, le film se soutient d'une profonde colère, que renforce le souci maintenu de son élégance.Une caméra baissée sur les pierres d'un chemin que nous suivrons tout au long du film, par fragments, jusqu'aux carrières de Canari en Haute-Corse : ainsi le parcours individuel d'un marcheur découvre, en bout de course, la question de l'amiante et sa signification collective. C'est aussi ce journal, qui égrène à la première personne les progrès d'une maladie d'abord sans diagnostic, jusqu'au verdict : le mésothéliome pleural, ou "cancer de l'amiante". "La Part du feu" trouve son rythme dans cette tension entre histoires individuelle et collective, dans l'arrangement de ces durées sans commune mesure. Les spécialistes du désamiantage, emmitouflés dans leurs combinaisons, y croisent en parole la victime d'une exposition trop importante - ou la soeur d'un autre, mort quinze ans plus tôt. Emmanuel Roy explore ainsi des paysages subalternes, interstitiels, sur les toits, les chantiers, à l'arrière des usines - zones sans plus de fonction ni d'utilité, mais au potentiel de nuisance inentamé.
