Implanté au coeur des Alpes, dans deux château remontant au Moyen Âge, le Musée d'art du Valais déploie une collection principalement orientée vers l'image de la montagne, du XVIIIeme siècle à nos jours. On découvrira dans cet ouvrage un patrimoine régional d'une richesse insoupçonnée, où se cotoient par exemple les visions sublimes du pionnier de la peinture alpestre Caspar Wolf etles oeuvres d'artistes proches de l'esprit du Pont-Aven qui, sous le nom d'Ecole de Savièse, allient iconographie rurale et art nouveau (Ernest Biéler, Edouard Vallet). est également présenté un important ensemble d'oeuvres d'art contemporain international liées au paysage en général, et au paysage de montagne en particulier (Walter Niedermayr, Axel Hütte, Thomas Ruff, Thomas Flechtner, Monica Studer et Christophe van den Berg) Cette publication inaugure la série "Collectionneur au coeur des Alpes" qui dévoilera successivement les collections des musée d'art, d'histoire et de nature du Valais.
